The Road Is Better Than The Inn

The road is better than the inn,

The saying goes as I recall

And yet the destination’s been

The aim, and that is best of all;

For, if I had nowhere to go

And nothing to be aiming for,

I wouldn’t have to travel, so,

I’d end up where I was before.

Why is the inn less than the road?

Because it’s only by the way,

And unlike home it’s no abode—

A temporary place to stay;

And since your destination is

The place you have to have in mind

An inn will only make you miss

The end you’re on your way to find.
