You Have A Moment To Recall
You have a moment to recall
If you would only bother to
Take it and then instead of all
Remember how it is in view.
I had one once, returned to me
As I had need of one to find
And it lay straight ahead to see
If I had to bring it to mind.
It happened on a summer day
In fact, so many years ago,
Amid the woods along the way
Of an outing we’d often go;
The clearing which awaited us
As I was looking forward to
Without a doubt of what it was
Had greenery of every hue.
My parents and my sister took
A path upon an errand bent,
My father called a nature walk
As, altogether, we four went.
From when I was a little boy
It remains, momentarily,
And represents an early joy
Embedded in my memory.
If troubled by a circumstance
Which I’m unable to avoid
In its direction when I glance
I notice that it’s unalloyed
Just like that lovely open spot
Yet unseen but expected that
Gives me the very feeling what
Lies up ahead I’m looking at.
