The Sun That We're Awoken By

The Sun That We’re Awoken By

The sun that we’re awoken by
And stars ushering in the night,
Phenomena which meet the eye
Are precious in a person’s sight.

But when we say the sun is but
This speck amidst this galaxy,
The galaxy’s a speck midst what
This universe in fact might be,

We lose a sense of where we are
Beneath an overarching round
For what beyond us goes so far
Our feet are not upon a ground.

We lose the underpinnings of
A place that has been given us
And heaven which is up above
Of which we’re now oblivious,

Bedazzled by what we are told
We miss what is before our eyes.
We lose what we cannot behold
For truths we cannot recognize.
