A FRIEND OF MINE INQUIRED WHY

A friend of mine inquired why

I take the “warmers” so to task

That I would make them suffer by

The questions I so like to ask,

And why it is I would object

To what the “warmers” want to do,

To save the planet being wrecked

By spewing too much CO2?

Because assumptions such as these

Which aren’t proven anyway

Are no excuse on which to seize

The part of advocate to play.

If you think CO2’s the source

Of warming up the planet then

Explain to me what cosmic force

Is cooling it down once again?

What made the climate alter so
And buried under permafrost

The mastodons beneath the snow

That for millennia were lost?

Was it those men of ancient time

Consuming too much fossil fuel

Who made an epic change of clime

So that the earth began to cool?

And if the world’s becoming warm

For too much carbon dioxide

Perhaps what causes more alarm

Is, baby, that it’s cold outside;

And if it doesn’t matter which

It is by getting cold or hot,

As long as they can bait and switch

Then science I would say it’s not.
