They Left Their Residence Behind

They Left Their Residence Behind

They left their residence behind
On Pennsylvania Avenue
To rob their nation all but blind
For being left in open view.

The furniture stashed in some sack,
Or else in boxes shipped away,
Would take a long time to get back,
As it was gone with ’em to stay.

Not only that—phone lines were cut,
And in a lock a glob of glue,
And dirty notes that who knows what
Was written if it’s even true.

It seems they didn’t understand
It wasn’t just their property,
That rather was like contraband,
Belonged to Bill and Hillary.

Donations to the Head of State
Are never meant to be their own
Because a gift one would donate
Was only theirs as twas on loan.

So for the nation they have led
A President just represents
The people for the time he’s head;
So also goes his residence.

Just to the nation they stand for,
Elected as they have to lead,
And not in order to make more
In satisfaction of some greed.

But Bill and Hillary forgot
The thing they were supposed to do
Once finding themselves in the spot
On Pennsylvania Avenue,

As other Presidents have done,
Forgetting how a residence
For the election they have won
Is not only the President’s.
