When Daddy & Mommy, Betty & Me
When Daddy & Mommy, Betty & me
Took nature walks on summer days
So much was there to search in ways
That taught us in new ways to see:
All that was in the woods was there
For us to search out and to find,
As if the woods had been designed
For us to lay their secrets bare;
As though there was a message sent
From somewhere, anywhere at all,
That biggest things we find in small,
And nothing is but what is meant.
No one would look for what is sought
If it was not placed there to find;
Aforethought, then, should lie behind
What had to be no afterthought.
