I’d Overlooked A Couple Bills

I’d overlooked a couple bills,

Unfortunately didn’t pay,

And lost my coverage for pills

I’ve to be taking anyway.

Some social worker made a call

To Medicare to talk about

How, failing payment, I lost all,

So as I have to do without

Insurance for the interim

Until they’ll let me reapply

To compensate for my income,

So that I may get better by.

He said, it’s not that I forgot,

To pay but I was unaware

That paying bills is really what

You do, as it is necessaire.

So, how he had to frame the case

Was it’s my mental issue, so

That bills are what a person pays

(As if it was, I did not know)

Although the medicines I take

Are unrelated to my mind,

It’s mental issues have to make

Excuses I may hide behind.

(The way I had explained it was,

My fault was my stupidity)

But having gotten nowhere thus

He claimed, my disability,

Which they rejected, seeing that,

The problem isn’t hard to fix

By paying bills which wasn’t what

I did. It is the rub that sticks.
