There Was A Little Girl Of Three

There Was A Little Girl Of Three

There was a little girl of three
Who being she was curious
About how she had come to be
Got the reply of how it was.

Her mother wanting to explain
The origin of babies said,
As grass is watered by the rain
So it is in the flowerbed;

I sowed seeds in that window pot.
Your father had his water can
Which watered them for me a lot
And so that’ s how it all began.

By pouring water from the spout,
A seed inside the soil got wet,
And like a flower you popped out;
And that is how it is we’d get

A baby!—So that’s how she knew
About it (only being three)
That which it is what parents do
For baby-making’s recipe.

While she believed it being told,
And, happy was to hear it by
Her mother (for a three year old
Is positive Mommy won’t lie)

And since I’m thinking of it, how
Clever it had been to show,
What seems to me a wonder now
Of how it is all babies grow,

’Cause, everything in principle
The little girl is told in sum;
All things considered, said it all,
If you are in a conundrum:

The seeds sown in the flowerpot,
The watering out of the spout,
A flower growing and, what not?
To show what “it” is all about.
