Two Cups Are By A Fellow’s Bed

Two cups are by a fellow’s bed

As he gets ready to turn in;

One cup is full and one instead

Has nothing in it to begin.

If he needs two, the reason why

Is not so hard to figure out:

One empty cup, and one full by,

Is what a riddle’s all about.

If you ask him why he needs two

He’ll say that if he’s thirsty he

Has one to drink and one in lieu,

For being that he’s not thirsty.
