Just listen to a mockingbird,

Who has such imitative skill

Repeating whatever he heard

And marvel at him if you will.

It seems there is not anything

A mockingbird cannot outdo,

Besides the song he has to sing

That is of his own making too.

His imitations have this way

Of turning anything around

To say what he has got to say

By simulating every sound

That isn’t his, but in response, 

The mockingbird has in reply;

His repertoire is for the nonce,

He alters his surroundings by.
