Of Prehistoric Beasts I Know 

Of prehistoric beasts I know 

One resembles a cat,

But since it lived so long ago

I cannot say he’s that.

Perhaps of cats the ancestor

Prehistory has linked,

Since not existing anymore

The animal’s extinct;

The lions and the tigers are

Related distantly,

That is to say they aren’t far

Dissimilar to he,

So long before it was we came

In ages long since gone

We only know him by a name

Which is the Smilodon.

Albeit he’d strike terror in 

A victim he’d pursue

Now only being a has-been

He’s not so likely to.

But if you should have any fear

Of him by looking at

The Smilodon from yesteryear,

You are a scaredy cat.

It’s not all there’s to know about

The Smilodon is so, 

But if you want to find more out

It’s possible to know,

Yet knowing that the Smilodon

Is no longer around,

Then it’s for you to smile upon:

He isn’t to be found.
