I had one pair of pants to wear
And they became so worn
That as the pair began to tear
They ended up quite torn.
That is a general rule of dress,
For pants that you put on
Begin as more and end as less
Until your pants are gone.
While even as I should outlast
The clothing which I had
The clothing off of me I’ll cast
Is that in which I’m clad.
My body outlasts what I wore
And it’s the way with me,
For when my body is no more
My soul will still there be.
A whimsical analogy: clothing to body: body to soul
