The Flies and the Honey-Pot

The Flies and the Honey-Pot

The housewife stirred her honey pot
And knocked it over by mistake
As flies attracted to the spot
Of it a breakfast tried to make.
While having had enough to eat
The flies saw they were honey-bound
They could not stir—snared by their feet
Their whirring wings went round and round.
Those flies for sweetness sought in vain
Their taste of honey from the hives
For pleasure they acquired pain
By that indulgence lost their lives.
