Dunes overgrown by greenery,
The sand is underfoot;
We’re taking our steps carefully
Lest we find a hot spot.
The steps used to be railroad ties,
The sand set in between.
We climb up this ascending rise
And overlook the scene—
Below us, there’s the sandy beach
And breakers of the sea,
And everything that’s out of reach
Which we’re able to see.
And what else should a rise be for
But for a time to stand:
To see the sea, the sky, the shore
Around on either hand?
