The Donkey And The Bales Of Hay

The Donkey And The Bales Of Hay

A donkey happened to have seen
Two equidistant bales of hay,
Who couldn’t decide in between
One—to be eaten either way.

So, in-between the twain he stood
Uncertain what he ought to eat
For, seeing each was just as good,
Likely, they’d be, equally sweet.

So that the donkey stood stock still,
Confounded only by the fact,
While either bale seemed possible,
He didn’t know how to react.

Then, in between them, mystified,
The donkey looking at the two
Was stymied, how could he decide
Exactly what he ought to do?

The donkey, being nonetheless,
Unable to make up his mind,
Dared not to venture any guess,
For, he was in a double bind;

So measuring the pros and cons,
Uncertain of which way to go,
Whatever should be a response,
The donkey grew divided, so,

The donkey, wavering between
Two equally good bales of hay,
His inclination made him lean,
Thence, equally, in either way.

When that is the predicament
That lots of people end up in,
Then choices turn indifferent,
Unable to choose in between

The right and left, that either or,
Seems, equally, a bail of hay—
Neither of which do they care for,
So middling is where to stay.
