I Think It Wonderful To Know

I think it wonderful to know
A girl is now a girl no more
But woman which is better so
Than it had ever been before.

Because to call the girl “a girl”
Is more demeaning than a bat
If you’ve some epithet to hurl,
Nothing’s so damaging as that.

So giving credit where it’s due
& elbow room to move about
Look afterward, if you have to
Figure a new description out.

Don’t call her by another name
That slights the girl’s humanity
As no two women are the same
& call her what she wants to be.

Because a woman is the best
That God was able to conceive
For Adam as He had addressed
His loneliness & gave him Eve,

He could’ve given him one more
Close to the man in every sense
Though God made her dissimilar,
And vive—for Eve—la difference.

Whatever you ’d call her though
This rose—by any other name—
Would be as sweet & that she’s so
Makes up for being not the same.
