A Christian Asked Me Yesterday

A Christian Asked Me Yesterday

A Christian asked me yesterday
What’s wrong with Christianity
As though he had in mind I’d say
A man of flesh a god should be.

That makes no sense to me at all
For how can God become a man
Since that should be impossible
As mortals are part of His plan?

Would anybody bend their knee
Before one who is flesh and blood?
Considering that he should be
A human being, no one should.

Whilst if he were the virgin’s son
How could he have a human dad?
And why would God’ve ever done
Such an unkind thing to the lad

As not to be around the house
When needed by his mother, say,
Abandoning His faithful spouse
And being off somewhere away?

What’s more, to sire someone’s son
What of the man who married her?
The marriage ties would be undone
Where God should be an adulterer.

That’s not to mention peace on Earth
And no more wars or suffering—
Forget about your Virgin Birth
For what Messiah’s meant to bring,

Which wasn’t what Messiah’s meant
Conceived and dreamt of by the Jews
Though Christians make an argument
That from the get-go they’ve to lose.
