Some People Look At History

Some People Look At History

Some people look at history
As though it is determined by
What happened accidentally,
Despite a reason being why.

As if there hadn’t been intent
But being how events fall out,
And that nobody really meant
What history’s, in fact, about.

Because of that nobody wants
To recognize intention plays
Its role by using circumstance
To mask an evil actor’s face.

Then no one seems responsible
But in a movement goes along,
And does as any movement will
As if nothing is right or wrong.

Sophisticated folks would say,
It’s just the way it is, and so
It doesn’t matter—either way—
As it’s only the way things go;

Where they blame their society
As there is nothing they can do,
For nothing that they do can be
For them to pay attention to.

So everything that does occur
Does not do so because of us,
But tells some story as it were,
Of what somehow or other was:

Some episode; some incident;
A random act and unforeseen;
As happened just by accident,
Or may have never even been.
