In Voters’ Polls It Had Been Shown
In voters’ polls it had been shown
Gay marriage wasn’t popular;
(To leave the laws enough alone
For people being as they are)
As seeing there would be no good
In lawyers making a demand,
By making folks do as they should,
(And with a very heavy hand)
And yet the Federal Government
Decided to compel each State
To alter what marriage had meant
And make the gay legitimate.
The rules were altered of the game
To be no longer what they were
For, couples of the same-sex came,
To marry just like him and her.
They’ve legalized it in the Court
To be something it never was,
That leaves us nowhere to resort,
By imposing new laws on us.
The Courts are playing politics
Selecting laws they’d legislate,
But powers aren’t meant to mix
In who’s to be whosever mate.
The outcome of this now is that
The baker has to bake a cake,
Which, handed down by caveat,
Is all for gay marriage’s sake,
While people lose their livelihood
Accused that they discriminate—
But who is it says that they should
Take part in it and celebrate?
