By Union Square A Fellow Says

By Union Square A Fellow Says

By Union Square a fellow says
That he’s a Jew but I can see
He’s clearly not so that I guess
This fellow's got it in for me.

He’s not the first of them to come
With his insistence we are not
Where it is we know we are from
Who’d disenfranchise our lot.

I’ve looked this other in the eye
By knowing he is nothing but
A question-monger who’d reply,
So all I ask the fellow’s—What

Do you want to be a Jew for?—
And seeing that he cannot say,
Why should I argue anymore?—
I turn my back and walk away.

  1. Encounter (If I'd a reason for being there it's that.)
