French people chatter in a way

Their English is impossible

To understand a thing they say

As they stress every syllable.

I don’t like how they say a word,

Although it seems melodious,

Displacing any stress I’ve heard

Their accents make it odious.

They massacre my native tongue

By misplacing the emphasis,

So that they have to say it wrong

No matter what they say it is.

The only English which is worse

Than if it’s in a French accent,

Is when it’s Gaelic they rehearse,

Then I miss all of their intent.
