The Rabbi Sat Inside His Hut

The rabbi sat inside his hut,

And entertained his visitor

As he had almost nothing but

A table on an earthen floor.

The visitor inquired why

The rabbi lived in such a way,

Who gave his questioner reply,

“Inside an inn how do you stay

“If you are going anywhere?

The answer was, “I travel light

Whilst I am going over there.”

“This is my temporary site;”

Replied the rabbi, “my abode

Is also elsewhere, so you see,

Whilst I am traveling the road

This hovel is enough for me.”
