I Heard About Some Firemen
I heard about some firemen
Coming to a 3-bell alarm
While—turning hoses on it then—
Were shot at by a firearm;
The flames they wanted to put out
A shooter blamed upon a hose
(Since water’s what fire’s about)
As fire’s what firemen chose,
Those firemen became the threat
As they had nothing better than
Flame-making—(waters fires set)—
So why not blame the fireman?
Although they tried to put it out
The firemen came to enflame
The fire, which folks didn’t doubt,
Is why fire’s set in their name.
Such is the kind of mindset now
That’s taken over to infect
The folks believing that somehow
A cause comes after its effect;
That topsy-turvy—upside down—
By turning fact upon its head
Half of those people there in town
Can blame the other half instead;
Police are being blamed for crime
That criminals, in fact, commit,
And people who should do the time
Had nothing much to do with it
But minded their own business when
Somebody happened to get shot,
And—if they blame the weapon then—
It just might be—as well as not.
