I Often Wonder How The Weak

I Often Wonder How The Weak

I often wonder how the weak
Are able to assist the strong
(As on a middle ground to seek
The fellowship to get along)

Albeit had the lamb its say,
And with the lion had agreed
It mostly seems to go the way
Of lions on lambs have to feed;

In other words for them to fit
Together in their partnership
One’s for the other's benefit—
A lamb lies in the lion’s grip;

So every lamb has to provide
The lion with a bite of meat,
As many a lamb has satisfied
The lion having what to eat.

Although it might not be ideal
(So far as any lamb can see)
A lion makes of lambs a meal
Which satisfies his majesty.

If nature meant some other way
For lions given their forepaws,
It seems to me one ought to say
A reason has to be for claws.

If they did not have teeth to tear
Prey with the way that lions do,
No lamb would be a lion’s share;
What would a cat’ve to come to?

Then for them both their destiny
By jungle law has been destined,
Where trophy hunters have to be
In search of lions and their kind.
