What happened on the Second Day

Was that the waters, being one,

Were split by God in such a way

Half cried about it being done:

The waters that were down below

Imagining them slighted by

Displacement, they protested so

In envy of the ones on high;

While knowing they had reason to

Resent the lower place they got

God told the waters what He’d do

To make up for their lower lot:

He said, the waters will be poured

Upon the altar in God’s Tent,

And thus uplifted reach the Lord

To be above the firmament;

(Their salt, would be extracted from

The waters of the bitter sea

For offerings they should become

In service of God’s sanctity)

But you may say our tears became

The highest tribute to the Lord

As shed in the praise of His Name

Upon His altars being poured.
