The New Civility

The question wasn’t if but when
The terror was about to strike
As many shrugged off seeing men
Beheaded, heads upon a pike;

While what I heard one lady say
“Its being really in bad taste”
So, she would rather turn away,
Than any fact of it be faced.

(Besides they’re being crucified
Or being burnt inside a cage,
What bothered wasn’t genocide
But seeing it was an outrage);

Should it’ve happened long ago
It wouldn’t bother her to look
At what was like a picture show
Or something in a storybook.
