Germany had a way to hide
(Intensively was able to)
And pave a way to genocide
Efficiently upon the Jew
By apple orchards roundabout
In order to erase a trace
Of mass extinctions carried out
By giving it a pretty face;
For, being masters of their ruse
And being able to disguise
What they were doing to excuse
It, in everyone else’s eyes;
While what was going on behind
The inoffensive walls that hid
That served as an effective blind
To every murder that they did;
The townspeople were “unaware,”
Albeit—it was in their town,
“Of what was happening in there,”
How it’d happen to go down
Unnoticed, as their lives went on
The way lives did in Germany,
“Wherever had all the Jews gone?”
Seemed to be such a mystery;
It was their sweet, appealing way
Of letting life go on nearby;
A comfort zone that let them stay
Enabled so to live their lie,
Whilst apple trees were fragrant so
It wouldn’t be that hard to tell
What trees in blossom had to show
By giving their offensive smell.
