We know an ape received its name

For aping what a man can do.

The problem is men do the same—

Men aping apes become apes too.

Now “ape” itself’s related to

The Hebrew word meaning an ape,

For copying’s what monkeys do

By mimicking their outer shape

While leaving out what is within:

In other words apes emulate

A function that might seem akin

But inwardly does not relate.

So that is just what happens when

We do what we can’t comprehend:

For aping we cease being men

To end up monkeys in the end.
