“Quit Wasting Time In Stuff Like That”

“Quit wasting time in stuff like that”

A friend said to me yesterday,

“With politics and who-knows-what

You seem so taken up to say.”

And somewhat hard put to say why,

But for the fact that people need

To see things as they’ve gone awry,

I write my poems they can read;

Since in my poems there’s a place

A reader has a chance to go

To look at things in other ways

Than other people say is so.

And if you think they’re out of date

For meter, maybe, and for rhyme,

The climate, there, should intimate

How I have made a place in time.
