If Wisdom Were To Compensate

If Wisdom Were To Compensate

If wisdom were to compensate
Us for the losses over years
We’d have the longest time to wait
To get over this vale of tears;

For, as it seems to me, I’ve been
Too often through it all before,
With all those sorrows I have seen,
To want to see them anymore.

Whatever you might have to face
In going where it is you must
The place depends with every case
On what it is you put your trust.

This world is what it is, my dear,
A place for only going through,
Yet in the meantime, getting there,
Things don’t get better, but you do.
