If Jesus Thought That He Was God

If Jesus Thought That He Was God

If Jesus thought that he was God
It tends to beg a question why
Would he believe a thing so odd,
To utter, “God, indeed, am I!”

For, being he was born a Jew,
Believing that our God is One,
I’d wonder how could Jesus do
As no Jew would’ve ever done?

It isn’t likely he would claim
Such strange impossibility,
To be one and the very same;
God isn’t what a man can be.

In doing what Jews do in prayer,
Declaring, God his Father was;
Therefore he must’ve been aware
That he was just like one of us;

So that would mean that he was not
The father of himself because
Then it would make his father what
Nobody in his right mind was.

There was the brother Jesus had
Whose name was James albeit he
Said, Joseph was in fact his Dad—
Shared they the same paternity?

Although they say Mary was not
James’ mother in a way that she
Was Jesus’s, you’d wonder what
James’ claim was for maternity?

Be that as might be, after all,
We know a little more about
How James’d be offset by Paul:
As James’s line had petered out.

The Jewish roots of Jesus were
By Church theologists denied
Who’d go so far, as they’d aver,
The Jews committed deicide.

Nothing was further from the fact—
As what the Church itself had done
Was on God do their own contract,
As they claimed Jesus was his Son.

While Jesus when he chose to pray
Called God a Father and a King,
Which, after all’s what all Jews say
Since that is just a Jewish thing;

But what the Church managed to do
Was take a man and make him God
Though all the time he’d been a Jew
Who’d think: “This all is very odd!”
