But for the sky around about
Earth wouldn’t be below us to
Look up from here as we look out
For constellations come in view.
And were it not for open space
And all the emptiness between
Nothing would be for us to face
So many things that may be seen.
And so it is for God Above,
Beyond all limitations that
Gives us a chance for what we love
Like you, dear, who I’m looking at.
So that it’s for what’s infinite
We pick out the particular;
Whatever we may witness—it
Is, God makes it familiar.
