Two men are in an opens boat,

In back and also in the front.

One doesn’t want to stay afloat—

Deciding on his own he won’t;

So when he tries to drill a hole

Into the bottom of the craft

His fellow takes the other’s awl

And says, “If it’s afore or aft

“It’s all the same to me, you fool,

As either way if we go down,

I’m practicing the Golden Rule—

So neither of us is to drown!”
