The Fox and the Crane

The fox for dinner did invite
The crane that came to the repast
Of which he didn’t have a bite
Because he was compelled to fast;

For he was served soup in a plate
Too flat for him to dip his bill
And had to watch the fox that ate
With relish till, he had his fill.

The crane declared, “A fine meal this!
Won’t you agree with me to dine?”
“Such a delight I dare not miss!”
“Oh no, the pleasure will be mine!”

This time it was the crane that served
And waited on the fox in turn
Who got just what the fox deserved—
Soup: in a narrow, long-necked urn.
